Out Now: Sarah in conversation with Henk Brinkhuis

jaashkin

In the latest episode of the FluidKnowledge podcast, Sarah speaks to outgoing director of the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ), Henk Brinkuis. They talk about paleo-oceanography, career trajectories, and of course the big question in ocean science: funding. Moreover, they get into the nitty gritty of institutional governance. What kinds of care are involved in developing an institutional strategy? How badly do you need your own boat? And what does any of that have to do with being a world-leading research institute?

After 10 years at the helm, Henk will step down as director of NIOZ at the end of this week. He will remain a member of our stakeholder advisory board and has offered us many a candid remark or hearty laugh over the past years. We're sure he'll be greatly missed at NIOZ and wish him all the best with what comes next!
