FLUID INTERFACES

WP3 will describe how policy discourses and practices are shaped in EU and national policy contexts with respect to the role of ocean science in and for society, by studying the science policy - ocean science interface. By studying science policy makers as well as scientific bodies and individuals that aim to advise and influence science policy, we will empirically analyse translation processes between the realm of science and the realm of science policy. Methodologically, WP3 will be based on a synchronous study of both the science policy community and the communities of ocean scientists that aim to influence science policy. The work package offers a new approach to analysing policy making in action. In the second part of the WP, we will focus on how scientists intervene and are invited to intervene in policy, by way of ethnographic fieldwork around the development of new policy documents.
